As some of you may know, I will be participating in the border crossings
with the Pastors for Peace US-Cuba Friendshipment Caravan Xlll and going
to Havana with the delegation. Since I will be flying into to Texas, I
cannot take a lot of aid with me, but I would like to take as much as
I am able.
Thus far, I have a donation of CIPRO and and offer to buy some Ibuprofen.
Other medicines would be appreciated if not expired, best unopened and
in original packaging.
My green doctor friend Conrado, who is a functionary in the Health Ministry
in the area of Natural and Traditional medicines, just wrote that the
used laptop I sent to him a few years ago has died. If anyone has, or
has a lead on, a possible donation, the minimum requirements would be
90 MHz Pentium l or equivalent processor.
Also, if anyone has been shopping for a Digital8 camcorder and has found
a great deal, please let me know. The camera is needed to complete a video
work station for the Cuban band Mezcla (finally!). Must have iLink (firewire)
and pass-through A-->DV. This will allow the band to produce their
own videos. OK, this may seem a bit extravagant compared with medical
aid, but I would be using the camera to document the crossing into Mexico
and possibly conducting some interviews in Cuba. This is something between
me and the band, but I will be accepting contributions when I present
the Pablo Menéndez's documentary video "Un encuentro en San
Fransciso por una música sin fronteras" at Autumn Leave Books,
Friday, July 12, 7:30 pm. (The video is about the historic concert in
San Francisco where Carlos Santana and other Bay area musicians stood
in for the 'banned' members of Mezcla. A lawsuit "Friends of Mezcla
vs. U.S. Department of State" over the visa denials followed.)
PS For those who have already responded to my earlier message sent from
my Cornell address, I will reply on Monday when I return to work. Thanks.
PPS Anyone out there with whom I can consult regarding Perna canaliculus
based preparations for arthritis patients?
