LITE BRITE: Lizz*e Baker was born and raised in a suburb just west of
Boston, MA but now resides near and attends Brown University in Providence,
RI. Lizz*e has consistently shown an interest in the arts and, more specifically,
the performing arts, participating in everything from musicals to being
the captain of a dance team to being the lead singer of a jazz band and
participating in a cappella choruses. While she acted, sung, and danced
in high school and college, she was both introduced to the healing power
of the performing arts and was learning a great deal about music, its
roots, its history, its progress, and its power.
Lizz*e first started "raving" at the age of 18. Before long
she had been well introduced to the styles of local Boston DJs and couldn't
be kept away from the scene. Lizz*e would travel close to 1000 miles each
weekend from Sarah Lawrence College just outside NYC to attend "hometown"
New England parties that represented happy hard-core much more frequently
than those in New York. So, after thousands of miles, a few breakdowns,
a couple speeding tickets, lots of gas, and the same demo tapes playing
over and over and over again, Lizz*e became familiar with the scene. She
quickly developed a passion for the community and found herself responding
to misinformed and biased news articles and television specials on raving.
She started clubs, joined the harm reduction movement (in the Boston-based
grassroots group, Safe 'N' Sound) and became as involved in the rave community
as she could. She consistently felt stuck, though, never feeling that
her work was really making a significant difference. Lizz*e finally discovered
that the perfect outlet for all of her energy was spinning.
Self-taught, LITE BRITE was first very interested in happy hard-core,
and quickly learned that the happy hard-core representation in the US
was few and far between but that its supporters were among the most positively
receptive of any others in the scene. L. BRIZZA's interest in the notably
oppositional genre of 2-step garage grew swiftly as well, and Lizz*e has
really enjoyed being able to span across such different crowds. L. BRIZZA
has recently expanded to include in her repertoire the genre of drum and
bass as well. Lizz*e began working with Never-ending Echo in the summer
of 2000 but decided to work on her own mid-January hoping that she might
promote herself better. Lizz*e is currently working with Ruffneck Playaz
Crew in the Boston/Providence chapter, with Elavibe Productions, with
Siren Alliance in DC, with I Eat Crayons, and with the co-op of New England
Hard-core. She has played at over 40 events since she began spinning 18
months ago, between clubs, weeklies, parties, benefits, and radio stations.
Lizz*e held a dual summer residency in 2001 with Sessions1 Radio and Modulate
in Washington, DC and currently holds residencies in both DC and FL.
